OLYMPIA, Wash. – State transportation crews will join with the state Department of Agriculture in tracking so-called murder hornets this summer and fall.

They’ll set traps along state highways to catch Asian giant hornets, part of an effort to set at least 1,200 traps across Washington.

They’ll focus on the northwest part of the state as the invasive hornets have only been found here in Whatcom County so far.

WSDOT crews will check the traps weekly during normal maintenance and preservation work.
