HEATHER MEADOWS, Wash. – Snow clearing on the last stretch of the Mount Baker Highway to Artist Point is in its second week.
WSDOT posts that crews encountered 15 feet of snow at the Heather Meadows closure gate when they began just after Memorial Day.
As of Wednesday, June 8th, they had cleared the road to the Terminal Lake parking area at Mile post 55.3.
Temporary repairs made last summer to a retaining wall just beyond that point will also have to be checked.
The department isn’t offering an estimate yet on when the road will be open.
