OLYMPIA, Wash. – If you have studded snow tires on your vehicle you have a little more time before you have to get them off.
Studded tires usually have to be removed by April 1st, but long-range weather forecasts that show the potential for winter weather has prompted the Department of Transportation to extend that deadline to April 15th.
Any drivers caught with studded tires after that date will face a $136 ticket.
The DOT says studded tires cause an estimated $29 million yearly in damage to roads.
The department urges drivers to consider alternatives like stud-less snow tires.
