OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Department of Transportation has stopped clearing the North Cascades Highway until further notice.

Secretary of Transportation Roger Miller implemented an essential maintenance approach to comply with the state’s stay home, stay healthy order.

WSDOT says they have paused most maintenance across the state, including work to reopen the North Cascades Highway.

Maintenance work pauses are also occurring on Cayuse and Chinook Passes.

Highway passes remain a valuable route for movement of goods and serve as an evacuation route in case of natural disaster.
