OLYMPIA, Wash. — It’s going to be a busy Memorial Day weekend, so the Department of Transportation released charts showing the best times to travel to avoid the worst of the traffic.

The charts cover a number of high-traffic areas in the state, including I-5 from Bellingham north to the Canadian border.

Traffic analysts looked at data for traffic on past Memorial Day weekends and made projections for this year.

According to their research, Bellingham drivers can expect the busiest road conditions on Friday afternoon on northbound I-5.

They predict the heaviest congestion in the state to occur on I-90 eastbound on Friday and Westbound on Memorial Day.
