OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state patrol is urging drivers to “slow down” and “move over.”

Extra troopers will be on patrol throughout the state this weekend as they emphasize the recently updated “move over law” that requires vehicles approaching an emergency or work zone to slow down and move over or change lanes when it’s safe to do so.

Violators face a $214 fine that cannot be waived or reduced.

That zone includes the 200 feet before and after an emergency or work zone vehicle.

The Washington State Patrol will conduct a statewide “slow down, move over” emphasis from August 23rd through August 25.
