PULLMAN, Wash. — Before Washington State University’s Saturday game, the school, players, and the parents of Tyler Hilinski paid tribute to the Cougar quarterback who took his own life in January.
KOMO reports his parents and two brothers raised the Cougar flag in WSU’s first home game since the 21-year-old’s death.
Fellow teammates have decals of Hilinski’s No. 3 on their helmets and are maintaining his locker.
An autopsy showed Hilinski was in the early stages of chronic traumatic encephalopathy which is known to cause cognitive issues and has been linked to contact sports.
Hilinski would have been the presumptive starter this season.
