If you want to ride the bus, you’ll have to hand over some cash.
The Whatcom Transportation Authority will start collecting fares again on July 1st but riders 17 and under can still ride free.
The WTA stopped taking fares last spring to increase physical distancing between riders and drivers, but with vaccinations numbers rising and new safety measures in place, they’re ready to start taking fares.
Cash fares are still one dollar per ride but 31-day passes have been raised from 25 to 30 dollars.
It’s the first time they’ve increased the cost of passes since 2009.
In 2019, the WTA’s Board of Director’s approved the Youth Ride Free program, allowing riders 17 and under, or those older than 17 currently enrolled in high school, to ride free.
