BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University rower Angie Dexter has been selected to the Google Cloud Division II Academic All-District 8 Women’s At-Large Team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dexter (Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage) carries a cumulative 3.91 grade point average while pursuing a degree in Spanish. She is a junior in the classroom and a sophomore in eligibility for the nationally ranked WWU women’s rowing program.

Dexter was one of 10 Division II student-athletes from the District 8 region that were named to the At-Large team, comprised of student-athletes in NCAA championship sports that do not have their own selected team in the Academic All-America program. This includes bowling, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming and tennis.

Dexter has been a mainstay in the Vikings Varsity 4+ crew all season. The fours won the Division II/III/Club race at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships in late April, fueling WWU’s strong finish to the regular season.

Western is one of four teams that will compete for the NCAA Division II national championship next weekend in Sarasota, Florida, marking the 17th time in the last 18 seasons the Vikings have advanced to the NCAA Rowing Championships. WWU won the 2017 NCAA II team title, the eighth national championship in program history.

This marks the third consecutive season that a member of the WWU women’s rowing team has earned Academic All-District 8 At-Large honors, with Karisa Stapp being named to the team last year and Emily Bartlett in 2016.

Nominated and voted upon by members of CoSIDA, nominees to the Academic All-District 8 Team come from the West’s three Division II conferences: the GNAC, the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the PacWest Conference. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or higher, be a starter or important reserve on their team, must be in their second year at the nominating school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher.
