WWU Student-Athletes Honored for Academics

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A record 33 Western student-athletes will receive the Great Northwest Athletic Conference FAR award for academics this year.

This last year, student athletes earned a cumulative 3.36 GPA, with 14 of the 15 varsity programs totaling a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The FAR awards went to 25 women and eight men’s student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or better, and the women’s soccer team had seven of the winners.

The goal of the awards is to ensure universities establish and maintain an appropriate balance between academics and athletics.
