HOUSTON, Texas – A WWU student is among those that were killed at the Astroworld Festival in Houston.

Family members tell KIRO News that 21-year-old Axel Acosta was one of the 8 people killed when crowds rushed towards the stage during rapper Travis Scott’s performance.

Acosta, who was from Yakima County, was studying computer science at WWU.

Relatives say that Acosta travelled to Houston by himself to see the sold-out show, with nearly 50,000 others in attendance.

Western released a statement regarding Acosta’s death saying he was “a young man with a bright future.”
