BOW, Wash. — A red tide continues in Samish Bay, but some areas are reopening to commercial shellfish harvesting despite the toxic algae.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the state Department of Health allowed two parcels within the bay to open Monday for commercial harvesting of manila clams and Pacific oysters because they had safe levels of algae.
The rest of the bay remains closed to recreational harvesting due to high levels of the toxic algae.
