BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Final results for Whatcom County’s state races likely won’t be in until mid-December, after hand recounts can be done and certified.
Following the County Canvassing Board’s meeting addressing challenged votes, Republican Doug Ericksen clings to a slim 45 vote lead over Democrat challenger Pinky Vargas in the 42nd District State Senator race.
Incumbent Luanne Van Werven is now only 80 ballots ahead of Democrat Justin Boneau and fellow Republican Vincent Buys trails Democrat challenger Sharon Shewmake by nearly 1,000 votes.
A hand recount hasn’t been scheduled yet, but according to the Secretary of State, candidates, party representatives and constituents can observe the entire recount process and even ask questions while it happens.
