PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — The tornado that tore through a Port Orchard suburb Tuesday afternoon was rated an “EF-2” in preliminary results.

Logan Johnston from the National Weather Service estimates it was on the ground for 1.4 miles, between 250-300 meters wide, with winds reaching 130 MPH.

After assessing the significant damage the tornado left behind, meteorologists rated the intensity as “EF-2,” or “considerable.”

The rare and surprising tornado ripped roofs off homes and uprooted trees, but no one suffered any hospital-worthy injuries.

This is the second tornado known to have touched down in Kitsap County — the last one was in 1991.
