BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Whatcom County Council member who had hoped to vie for the State Senate seat left vacant by Kevin Ranker’s resignation has been ruled ineligible.
Rud Browne has declared his interest in the position, but the state Democratic Party says Browne or any other member of the Whatcom or San Juan County Councils or the Skagit County Commission can’t be considered to replace Ranker.
This is because those councils and the commission will eventually decide on his replacement.
The Washington State Democratic Party will begin the replacement process with a special caucus on February 2.
Ranker resigned earlier this month amid a sexual harassment investigation.
