BELLINGHAM, Wash. — All of last week’s snow and ice didn’t just prevent people from getting to school and work, it also prevented them from donating blood.
KING 5 reports roughly 1,500 blood collections were lost the last few days as weather kept donors from getting to their appointments, and now Bloodworks Northwest says their supplies are at emergency levels.
A spokeswoman says their current supply is less than half of what it usually is.
O-positive and O-negative are needed the most, while A-negative and B-negative are also getting low.
Bloodworks Northwest says they need both blood and platelets.
There are 11 locations to donate across Washington, including one in Bellingham’s Bakerview Square near Lorraine’s Window Coverings.
