MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — For the twelfth time in two years, the trial for the man accused of shooting and injuring a former Mount Vernon police officer was delayed.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Ernesto Lee Rivas faces multiple charges related to the December 2016 shooting of officer Michael “Mick” McClaughry, including attempted murder.

Rivas’ trial had been set for March 18, but was postponed again so his new public defender could get caught up on the case.

McClaughry suffered a bullet wound to the head which damaged his short term memory and left him nearly blind.
