SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — The number of people who died in traffic-related encounters fell slightly in Seattle last year.
The Seattle Times reports the Department of Transportation recorded 14 deaths on city streets in 2018, down from 19 in 2017.
Eight of the deaths were of pedestrians and only one involved a bicyclist.
The number of deaths and serious injuries on city streets has trended downward slightly in recent years as the city’s population has grown.
The city’s Vision Zero goal, much like the state’s Target Zero campaign, aims to have no fatalities or serious injuries by 2030, using strategies that include lowering speed limits and redesigning roadways.
