SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — A former Skagit County sheriff was convicted of embezzling more than $30,000 from a law enforcement organization.
Brian Lehr of Sedro-Woolley was sentenced by the U.S. District Court in Seattle to 60 days in prison and six months of house arrest after he stole from a police dog handlers organization where he was the treasurer.
Over the course of six years, Lehr used money from the Pacific Northwest Police Detention Dog Association for personal expenses like restaurant bills, hotel and event expenses, and even his cable TV and cell phone bills, withdrawing cash and using the association’s debit card.
The Association says they have not had enough money to purchase equipment or bring in trainers to work with their narcotic detection dogs.
