BELLINGHAM, Wash. — If you’re tossing around the idea of joining local politics, it’s time to make a final decision.
Whatcom County Auditor Debbie Adelstein announced Candidate Filing Week starts on May 13 , allowing people to officially declare their candidacy on the county website.
She urges prospects to review the filing guide, which lays out all the updated rules for the election process.
Whatcom County has 134 offices up for election this November, including Whatcom County Executive, Whatcom County Sheriff, and Mayors for Bellingham and Ferndale.
Their terms last for four years.
Also up for election is the 40th District State Senator, a position currently held by Democrat Liz Lovelett, who took over the spot after Kevin Ranker’s resignation.
The deadline to declare candidacy is 4 PM on Friday, May 17.
