OLYMPIA, Wash. — State Senator Kevin Ranker of Orcas Island has resigned, right before the new legislative session begins in Olympia.
The Democrat has been under investigation since last fall for claims of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment for a former employee when she rejected his advances.
Last week, Ranker stepped down from leadership roles on two committees before his abrupt resignation late Friday.
In an email Saturday to constituents and others Ranker said, “I am deeply sorry for any stress I caused her and I sincerely apologize. I wish her peace.”
His accuser Ann Larson told AP she hopes her actions help more people feel safe to report “any kind of inappropriate behavior without fear of retaliation.”
