SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — Experts believe the workers disassembling the construction crane on a Google building in Seattle prematurely removed pins holding it together which may explain why it toppled Saturday, killing four people.
Crane accident investigator Tom Barth says based on the videos of the collapse, workers didn’t properly take apart the crane mast in sections.
Ironworkers Andrew Yoder and Travis Corbet died in the collapse, as did 19-year-old university student Sarah Wong and retired city employee, Alan Justad.
Seaburg Construction Corp. is the fifth company involved in the crane collapse that L&I plans to investigate in addition to general contractor GLY, Northwest Tower Crane Service Inc., Omega Rigging and Machinery Moving Inc., and Morrow Equipment Co. LLC.
