LYMAN, Wash. — After flooding along the Skagit River last year caused extensive damage, the Army Corps of Engineers is helping get one particularly hard hit town ready for flooding predicted this weekend.
The Army Corps says a flood response plan for the town of Lyman is underway in response to National Weather Service predictions for Western Washington rivers, which may crest this weekend above flood stage.
The Army Corps is working with city, county and state officials to develop a plan to protect the city’s infrastructure with the construction of a buried rock trench, which they’ll begin once they have an official flood prediction.
The agency says flood fight teams are deploying to Lyman and other areas of concern on the Skagit River and to areas of concern in the Nooksack River basin.
