BIRCH BAY, Wash. — The State Legislature approved $2 million in funding for a new Birch Bay library.

Washington’s 2020-2021 capital budget that lawmakers passed Saturday includes a huge amount of funding for the Birch Bay Vogt Community Liberty.

Friends of the Birch Bay Library and the Whatcom County Library System Foundation will now launch a major fundraising campaign to raise the remaining $2.7 million to build the 7,000 square-foot public library along Birch Bay’s waterfront.

In addition to the $2 million from the state, the project also received a $100,000 donation from BP Cherry Point Refinery and about $20,000 in donations from community members.
