BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Jury selection begins today in Timothy Bass’s trial for the murder of Mandy Stavik.
At a special hearing last week, presiding Whatcom Superior Court Judge Robert Olsen granted full media access during the trial with one pool television camera allowed.
Amanda “Mandy” Stavik was home from college for Thanksgiving break in 1989 when she went missing while jogging near her family’s home in Acme.
The 18-year-old’s naked body was found three days later in the South Fork of the Nooksack River.
The case went cold for decades until DNA evidence led investigators to Bass.
