BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County’s bus system has been recognized for being eco-friendly.
The Northwest Clean Air Agency awarded Whatcom Transportation Authority with a “Partners for Clean Air” Gold Award for 2018 as they demonstrated three consecutive years of perfect compliance with air quality regulations.
General Manager Pete Stark says WTA actively pursues new methods to improve energy efficiency and reduce local air pollution.
WTA has recently reduced commute trips through redone routes, installed LED lighting and solar panels at several facilities, and will add electric buses to their fleet next year.
